- I fitted a thin charcoal insole under the existing insole
- sprayed the shoes inside and out and under the insoles and on top of the insoles with a knarly shoe deo that is no longer sold.
- started wearing silly looking short socks
Not sure how you use this with Birks, but I'd start with trying to kill off lots of the bacteria and then keep its re growth to a minimum
- wash feet once or twice a day
- sand all the Birk suede insoles with 120 grit, might need to glue sandpaper to end of stick of wood
- consider shampooing with something like this
- let some sun get inside them
Something like this might help
Think about how you currently store them and work out if you can do better.
- airflow - I store mine outside the door to walk in wardrobe that has a window that's always ajar. So they have some airflow
- dryness - bacteria that make the smell need moisture
- consider storing them toes up, maybe against the wall, damp air will not sit in them
For a short easy win spraying them with this will help it is water, alcohol and fragrance. Best used as well as all the above rather than alone.
And if you are allowed you could try socks at least next winter around the house!
